Vocabulary Parade!

The media specialist at my school had the fabulous idea to host a "Dictionary Day" or "Vocabulary Parade"! Only one grade of the school participated in this parade, so other grades in the school lined the drive to cheer on these students and learn new words as well.
The participating students had chosen a word several days in advance, with parental approval, and dressed up at the beginning of the day. Students lined up by class and stepped on a small stage for the students (and participating teachers) to walk across while the media specialist said their vocabulary word into a microphone for all students to hear. Then students walked around the driveway where non-participating students and teachers were cheering for them and learning new words as well!

Same Students, New Words
Here are the vocabulary words our class used:

Cruciverbalist-one who loves to do crossword puzzles (This was a new one for us too!)

The Vocabulary Parade lasted a total of 30 minutes and counted as Language Arts and Reading class time for all the grades who participated and came to watch. This idea was exciting for administrators, teachers, students, and even parents who were able to come and see their children in the parade.

Future Teachers of America
Even future teachers can have fun on Vocabulary Parade day!

Hope everyone has a unique day!
